SCHOOL IS CLOSED for Friday, October 30. 5C will remain open to serve the needs of our working families as needed.
After finishing the regular season with only one loss, the CCS Eagle volleyball team entered the conference tournament last week with high expectations. The girls worked their way to straight set victories over Potter-Dix and Garden County earning a spot in the championship game against the Leyton team that dealt the Eagles their only loss. The lady Eagles had the lady warriors on the ropes as they jumped out to an early 11-1 lead. Confused and frustrated, the Leyton lady warriors never gave in and eventually won the first set 28-26 and went on to earn the conference title. However, playing for the glory of Christ involves more than winning. “Our girls gave everything they had,” said fourth year coach Julie Lewis. God was glorified in the play of the lady Eagles because they were motivated by the love of Christ and played for an audience of One. It was an exciting game to watch and we are very proud of our team. Well done ladies!
CCS was privileged to host Ron Radford for an afternoon concert performance. Mr. Radford is the only individual ever to be awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in Flamenco guitar and traveled thousands of miles in Spain studying the music of the Spanish Gypsies.
He has performed at New York's Carnegie Hall, Washington's Kennedy Center and at colleges and concert halls across the United States. He has also performed in 15 foreign countries.
The students enjoyed Mr. Radford's music and were able to ask questions about his life and music performances.
Webb Orthodonics surprised the student body by serving rootbeer floats at lunch recess.
We are excited about the new school year and what God has in store for CCS. Welcome to all the new families and welcome to those who are returning. See you soon!

For 2 weeks the students were challenged to bring in their extra change or any donation as a fundraiser for Raul Garcia. Raul is a 4th grader in our community who has been diagnosed with ALD, a rare genetic disease. Although the reward for the classes bringing in the most money was to throw pies at Mr. Geary, the students were challenged to think about giving and sharing the love of God with others. Our heartfelt prayers are that God would be present with the Garcia family, giving them the strength and grace they need to face each challenge. We love you Raul!
We are proud of Garrett Treffer, a 2002 graduate of Community Christian School. Garrett, a sophomore at Chadron State College, was the starting quarterback for the Eagles in their playoff game against Minnesota-Duluth. In his first start for the Eagles, Garrett performed well, outperforming his Duluth counterpart who was 10-25 passing for 137 yards. Garrett completed 23-35 passes for 170 yards and had one interception (It bounced off the receiver.) Garrett continues to be strong in his faith and maintains a 3.6 GPA while majoring in Business. Way to go Garrett, we are proud of you!
The students have been busily wrapping and filling shoe boxes with donated item. 132 boxes were filled and sent on to the distribution center in Denver to be given to children around the world.

Among those honored were: Marty Poole, Al Wilder, Gil Watkins, Mike Blue, Charles Underhill, Harry Schmidt, Valarie Fuller, LeRoy Becker, Don Kramer, Paul Reuland, John Watson, Marvin Hariman, James Todd, & Ron Rahmig. The team members included fourth graders Jim Eastman and Jacob Hansen and fifth graders Eseah Ingram and Mark Persinger. Erika Geary was an alternate.
The CCS team rolled through the eight team field by winning each of its four matches. They began by facing St. Agnes in the first round of the day. CCS won the match 8-2. Lincoln Heights, who had bested the eventual third place Westmoor team in the first round, was our next opponent. The Eagles posted a secure 10-4 victory in that match, which positioned them against Roosevelt in the finals of the winners bracket. Roosevelt had beaten both Banner County and Mitchell on their way to the finals. After falling behind 3-1 early in the match, CCS rebounded with a 7-0 run to win the match 8-3. The championship was a rematch with Roosevelt and the CCS team was determined! They posted a strong 16-1 victory to claim first place and the $300 award.
Congratulations to everyone involved! The teachers mentioned the primary reason for a CCS victory was preparation, balance and teamwork. Way to go team!

Senator Harms spoke about the importance of becoming interested and involved in the legislative process. He described the details of how a bill becomes law in Nebraska and told the students it is important to work with everyone in order to bring needed laws through the process. His challenge included, "I'd like to see someone in this class serve in the legislature. Allow God to use you." Thank you, Senator Harms, for visiting. We'll be praying for you!

Keenan Schmidt won the "look like your teacher/principal" contest. Way to go Keenan, you even got the hair (or lack of hair) right!
The enchilada factory going at full speed for 2 full days. Parents, staff and 8th grade students make cheese enchiladas by the thousands as an annual fundraiser.

For the next 2 days, our gymnasium will be turned into an "enchilada factory" where parents, staff and the 8th graders will be making enchiladas and enjoying the fellowship. Pictures to come!
In the meantime our top family is the Hansen-Schaub Family who sold 84 dozen and received a prize of $150 cash and a $100 registration rebate. Merry Christmas! May the peace of Christ rule in your homes this season.
The 8th grade class at CCS will be performing the musical "Christmas at Bethlehem Gultch" in the Little Theatre at WNCC this Thursday night. The public is welcome to attend this free event.
As a community service project, CCS students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade all made a visit to the Village at Regional West last week to hang Christmas decorations for the residents. The Village was the school's adopt a school partner last year. The event was a hit last year and students and staff enjoyed interacting with the residents and wanted this project to be a yearly event. Mr. Geary, CCS Principal remarked, "Serving our community is important. Jesus was a servant. This event gives our students another opportunity to experience the gratification that only comes from selfless giving of yourself. I'm excited to have our students help brighten the season for the residents of the Village."
This year went much more smoothly because the students had experience hanging the lights last year and got right to work. Congratulations CCS students - you are making a difference.
Our fall fundraiser was a great success. Sales of cookie dough, candles and coffee raised over $25,000. We had many prizes to give away, including a new Dell Computer to the highest seller. Cameron Harpold, 2nd grade, was the deserving recipient. Congratulations Cameron!!
Both CCS teams recorded their first wins of the new season last Wednesday.
The lady eagles needed three sets to polish off a talented Banner County team. Coach Lewis was pleased with the girls' performance and is looking forward to an off week to improve on skills and strategy as they prepare for the upcoming contest on September 25th in Gering against Sioux County.
The Eagle football team needed overtime to defeat the scrappy Wildcats. After surrendering a touchdown on the opening kickoff, the eagle defense stiffened and the offense put the needed points on the scoreboard. After the Wildcats tied the score in the fourth quarter, the eagle offense sustained a drive using the final 5:30 of the period. Because of a defensive penalty, the Eagles were awarded an untimed down and promptly scored from 15 yards out. However, they were called for holding and regulation time ended. In overtime, tailback Austin Schaub scooted around the left side behind the blocks of Caleb Wyre and Kyle Meininger to score the winning touchdown. On the Wildcats only overtime play, rushing defensive end, Caleb Wyre sacked the quarterback causing a fumble which was recovered by the Eagle defense. Coach Geary was tickled with the players performance and perseverance. The football team will be in action again on September 25 against Sioux County at the Gering High School practice field at 2:00 pm.
Community Christian School Foundation President, Dr. John Harms, recently presented Cathy Eastman, school board president, and Chris Geary, principal, with a check in the amount of $18,500 in support of the school's continued efforts. Community Christian school is an interdenominational school nearing its twentieth year of operation. Founded in 1988, the school enrolls students in Preschool through eighth grade. Students in the school have scored at or above the 75th percentile on the National assessment, SAT-10 each of the past fifteen years. The school offers extracurricular activities beginning in first grade, including speech and math competition as well as all major sports offerings for grades 6-8.
As principal, I am excited and extremely grateful for the foundation’s efforts and support of our school. We will be using these funds to expand our computer capabilities as well as provide financial aide for deserving families. Our school continues to see improvements to our physical structure. We have updated our parking areas and landscaped the front lawn as well as updating the classrooms with paint and lowered ceilings. Many of these projects simply would not be feasible without the support of the community and especially the Foundation. Thank you to all who supported the campaign.
As we look to our future, our commitment is to continue to offer the best education in the valley while expanding our offering to more students. If God chooses to lead us to develop a high school we are willing and eager to follow His direction. We are certain that students who graduate from Community Christian are well prepared to be successful academically, vibrant spiritually, and competent athletically. The foundation’s support of our school is deeply appreciated.
We are currently accepting enrollment for all grades. Students in first grade through the eighth grade are required to pass an entrance assessment to demonstrate proficiency in reading and math. Younger students must achieve the appropriate age by April 10, of the current school year. Contact Emily at the school (632-2230) for more information regarding enrollment.
